Celebrating the changing of the seasons with Fall Build, featuring Stanley Black & Decker!
Longtime Habitat Chesapeake partner Stanley Black & Decker joined Habitat staff onsite for two weeks in August and September for Fall Build 2022. Groups of 10-20 volunteers came out to Ward Street, located in Pigtown, Southwest Baltimore for eight days to work on three new homes.
Habitat Chesapeake has a long history of building in Pigtown. Almost a decade ago, Habitat partnered with groups like the Ravens to build the 1200 block of Ward Street. Just down the street from community service partner Paul’s Place, Habitat Chesapeake broke ground on three new homes in December 2021, just across the street from two gut rehabs.
At Fall Build, Stanley Black and Decker volunteers bring energy and expertise to finish drywall, siding, painting, and basement sealing in preparation for the new Habitat homebuyers that will soon call these houses their home. With over 20 years of impact, 4,000 volunteers onsite, over 700 hours worked, Stanley Black and Decker employees have helped build 125 homes — and counting.
“Stanley Black and Decker is a tremendous partner with Habitat Chesapeake. When you think about all the money that we’d have to use to buy tools, this helps us build more houses,” said Steve Bolton, Habitat Chesapeake COO to the first group of September’s volunteers. “We’re going to get a lot of work done here, and we really appreciate it.”
Volunteers get to learn new skills or hone existing expertise on Habitat Chesapeake build sites while helping to build or rehabilitate affordable homes. Volunteers can bring a range of experience, from never picking up a tool to over a decade of service on Habitat Chesapeake sites. Many of the tools used onsite were even designed by Stanley Black and Decker
