AmeriCorps Week 2023

Celebrating AmeriCorps Service Members with AmeriCorps Week 2023!

During AmeriCorps Week, we recognize the commitment of millions of Americans who serve the country and encourage others to pursue service to their communities. AmeriCorps members, Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and organizations across the country come together during the second week of March to highlight the ways that service from AmeriCorps members helps advance their mission and build stronger communities.

Habitat Chesapeake celebrated AmeriCorps Week with a series of fun-filled events, including a service day, Habi-Hour, and construction skills competition. The first annual Construction Olympics was held on Wednesday, March 16 and featured 7 different challenges amongst teams composed of AmeriCorps members & alumni, HabiCorps trainees, and Habitat Chesapeake staff. Challenges included a timed drilling test, construction of a knee wall, and even a wheelbarrow relay race! Congratulations to the winners, Team Hammertime, for putting their skills to the test and winning gold.

AmeriCorps Week is a great opportunity to learn more about how service can contribute to Habitat for Humanity’s mission, too. Affiliates all over the U.S. partner with AmeriCorps members, who help with construction, volunteer engagement, and so much more. Read about AmeriCorps alumni Brandon and Mina to learn about how they become involved in AmeriCorps and their role with the organization.
